JOHN PLOTZ
Associate
John joined Rower LLC in 2023. In addition to developing a broad matrimonial practice, John has worked to build a fertility practice at Rower, working with clients in an evolving legal landscape on sperm/egg donation, embryo disposition agreements, parentage, and surrogacy matters.
Before joining Rower LLC, John was an associate in the litigation group at Sidley Austin LLP, where he worked on commercial litigation matters and white-collar investigations. In his pro bono practice, John has represented, among others, a journalist in a federal civil rights litigation arising out of the George Floyd protests, a retired U.S. Navy officer requesting a discharge upgrade, and several clients seeking asylum in the United States. From his pro bono practice, John developed a passion for working with individual clients, and he brings to his work a belief that clients should have the autonomy to build families of their own design.
John graduated with honors from Vassar College in 2013 with a degree in music. After working as a legal assistant at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, John received his JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2019, where he served as an associate editor of the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law. In law school, John founded the Education and Advocacy wing of Penn Law’s chapter of If/When/How – Lawyering for Reproductive Justice. John was also a member of Penn Law and the Arts, serving as president for the 2017-2018 academic year.
John is admitted to practice law in New York.
Outside of work, John enjoys playing piano, reading murder mysteries, and watching reality TV. John resides in Brooklyn with his two cats, Max and Koko.
